Poverty

Poverty, what is it? Is it something we can get out of? ''
Poverty has a lot of definitions, as for us poverty is a loose of hope, it takes away all the opportunities in life and disabels our ambitions in life. People in poverty, cannot afford to go to school etc. And imagine that, each day a kids lives for 1$ which leads them to spending their money more on their basic needs. " Poverty is people who have low income bracket. And people having low levels of health of education " - Quoted by World Bank. " Poverty is the denial of the voice of the poor people and not giving them a choice " - Quoted by UN.

WHAT DID WE LEARNED?
We learned, that poverty destroys people lives it takes away everything they worked hard for. Or it was not even their choice to be in this position and stuck in this life. And we people, just let it continue the " Cycle of poverty" and let it be. Poverty takes away hope in the things we believe in through education. It hinders kids, to go to school to be motivated. And have the future that the kids want. It forces them to drop out, it HINDERS their opportunity to go to school, and have a life they wanted after all. Which is why, the population of poverty grows bigger because they drop out from school, there is not parent support which is why the poverty cycle continues and never stop it is one of the major causes of education in poverty.

"The Unexpected journey"
Edwardo is a 57 year old dad living with his 3 kids and wife. Dona, the second youngest daughter of Edwardo is the only one who is going to school. This family has a lot of issues but what I love the most is that the members of this stay together. For a living, the family grows “Kangkongs” to sell and eat. Edwardo’s family is not rich, but they still manage to survive and live together as one family.
“Sir! Sorry po, pero kailangan na ninyong umalis dito sa lupaing ito at meron ng ipapatayong tulay at mga iba pang konstruksyon. Kaya pakiusap po, kusa na lang po kayong umalis bago meron pang masaktan!” said the guard with a mad face. “Walang naman kayong awa! Dito na nga lang namulat ang aking mga anak at wala na kaming ibang matirahan tapos sasabihin ninyong aalis kami dito?” Edwardo replied. After that there was a short silence and you could see the tears flowing from his eyes. He would wipe them secretly, and then he said, “Ang gobyerno natin, ay ina-abuso ang mga kaparatan namin. Ayaw nila kaming makaroon ng pag-aari. Dahil ba mahirap lang kami? Wala silang paki-alam sa aming mga karapatan. Problema lang kami sa tingin nila.” I stopped listening for a moment and then I looked at his eyes and smiled, I wanted to say that everything has its purpose, and that everything will be alright if you let God lead the way.”Parang trinatrato na lang kaming mga baboy at langaw at parang tinapon lang sa basurahan.”
I know that it was Edwardo’s responsibility to take care of his family, the pressure was all on him. He’s thinking that some day, his family does not get to eat, they don’t have the proper clothes and shelter.
After interviewing his family, I talked to Dona and asked her, “Ilang taon ka na?” she smiled and then replied, “Ako po ay 10 years old.” When I was about to leave, she waved goodbye and smiled, but before that I asked her “ ano ang pangarap mo pag laki mo?” Dona gave me a big smile but she never answered.
Edwardo’s family, was very plea-sent to meet them. But I could never forget the touching story of Edwardo, His face looked like he wanted to give up but he did not. I’m sure that Edwardo prays to God everyday that this nightmare of his would end. But every day there’s something unexpected. This is a real life of an Filipino trying so hard to survive this everyday nightmare. This is an unexpected journey of Edwardo’s family.
I’m feeling, very thankful to God that my life is like this, and for now on after hearing this story. I’m not going to take things for granted.

TWO HANDS
“Get out of there!” Pedro said loud. Pedro gathered all the elders in a place and said, “We need to fight and we should not let them demolish our place!” Pedro and the elders don’t have weapons but MMDA has. Pedro tried to be brave. “As long as we’re together we can do this,” he said. One of the elders shouted, “ATTACK!!” They were all running as brave as thay could.
Pedro and the elders were winning so far but lots of them died and got injured. The remaining elders including Pedro were beating the last person they saw, so after that they knew that they won. Pedro happily told his family that they were able to defeat the members of the MMDA and he said that they are now safe.
After one week..
Pedro, “How many children do you have?” asked by the employer in a school. “I have three,” Pedro replied. Pedro was applying to be a janitor in a school. After a long time of waiting, the school accepted him as its new janitor. Pedro felt wonderful.
Pedro
After that day he knew that he needed more jobs so he tried in a restaurant and luckily they needed a new dish washer, pedro was accepted. He also became a carpenter so he can have more budget to use for his family. Even if Pedro had lots of jobs and money he was still glum but it tried to cheer him up.When he was already working his first week was very tiring because of the three jobs he had, but still his inspiration was his sick daughter.
After a tiring month he finally received his salary from the three job he had. I can finally buy medicine for my daughter he said. When he was walking in a street almost near his house, bad luck went to him again, a guy went near him and got his bag. All pedro can do is cry because he cant catch the guy because he was too tired. When he arrived in his house his whole family member were crying because one of his daughter that had tuberculosis already died.
One daughter shouted at him and said “ why didn't you help us, you weren't here for almost one month.” Pedro was mad and said, I wasnt here because I have three jobs, I wasnt going home because i didnt have time, everything I did just to make everyone happyin this family. They were all crying. After that day they saw pedro dead hugging his daughter that died. And there was a letter in a chair that says “ I only have two hands.”

THE LOST CHILD
There was a boy named Seth, he was left and thrown to the streets. His mom died while giving birth to him. His father was a drunkard eventhough he’s very desperate for money. One day, in the middle of the night, two police officers were driving around Seth’s village. Suddenly, a man threw a bottle of wine to the police car. The police officer turned on the siren and drove towards that man. The man was very angry and confused and has no where to go.
The police officer pointed his gun at him. “Freeze!!” the police officer shouted. The man was arrogant then he went running. The police officers fired their pistol, but they missed. So they went running chasing that man. Breath after breath, the man was getting tired so he went looking for a place to hide. The police officers heard noises near the garbage dump. They thought he was there.
The police couldn’t find the man. It seemed that the man has disappeared. Suddenly, a cry was heard near where the police car is. They ran to see who that is. While they were looking who the source of that car is, the man suddenly appeared out of nowhere, carrying a gun pointing it in the garbage can. The man fired his gun and suddenly the crying stopped. The man saw the police officers and then ran again. The police officers didn’t mind the man, so they just checked out the garbage can. One of the police officers opened the trash can and saw a child. He grabbed the child and luckily there were no bleeding, just scratches and bruises. The child was still alive.
Later on the two police officers put the child in an orphanage, tight with security. they still didn’t know who was the man who tried to kill the child, it was very lucky for that child to have been found by the police. A blessed child.
